Forty-nine days after setting off from Chaska, Sean and Colton arrived in York Factory on the shores of Hudson Bay Sunday.
Sean and Colton (as of

Sean and Colton (as of yesterday) have made it to Norway House on the northern tip of Lake Winnepeg. They are now on Day 40 of their canoe trip.

Looks like they're thinking of their peers graduating this weekend. According to their Web site: "Colton & Sean want to wish the Chaska High School Class of 2008 the best at their commencement tomorrow night. They're with the class in spirit. Their words of wisdom-Don't listen to people who say you can't do something. If you follow your dreams you can do anything!"

You can compare the real heron to Chaska's artificial heron, recently installed in the Clover Ridge neighborhood. (This photo also by Josh Hed.)

The Minnesota River

The Minnesota River canoeists continue to plug their way up the Minnesota River, against quite a current (the Minnesota River seems to be up several feet after recent rains).

Here's their Web site, which has a number of news stories, updates and contact info on the pair:
Eric Sevareid, a Minnesota

Eric Sevareid, a Minnesota journalist icon, inspired the pair's trip with his book "Canoeing with the Cree." The book chronicled a 1930 canoe trip to the Hudson Bay that Sevareid took with another teenager.

The timing of their trip is appropriate, since Sevareid was recently honored with a U.S. postage stamp: www.usps.com/communications/newsroom/2007/sr07_043.htm
