Members of East Union did a great job of putting the ghost tour together. It was a terrific idea to introduce people to the church's history, by telling the individual stories of parishioners. Hopefully it will be emulated among other parishes and towns.

Paul Bunyan was a well-known Scandinavian. He made lutefisk out of humpback whales and carved Dala horses out of giant redwoods.

World's largest lefse? This notice, from Explore Minnesota tourism, was too good to pass up:

The city of Starbuck will hold the 22nd Annual Lefse Dagen celebration on Saturday, May 17, to commemorate the creation of the world’s largest lefse.

Festivities will include musical entertainment and sing-alongs, a gathering of the original bakers, lots of lefse rolling and samples, a Scandinavian lunch, and an open house at the Starbuck Depot Square.

Those who really enjoyed Syttende Mai with the Nordic Heritage Club, can continue celebrating with the Vestland Lodge, Sons of Norway, which will celebrate Syttende Mai with a "Kold Bord" at its 7 p.m., May 20 meeting.

The Nordic Heritage Club’s next meeting is at 7:30 p.m., Friday, March 14, at the Acorn House in Victoria.

This month a film will be shown, “The Falun-Roros Exhibition: A Historic Journey with Horse and Sled,” by Stefan Quinth.

This movie highlights a trade route between Sweden and Norway, used over 100 years ago, and reenacted by a Swedish society. The movie is filled with scenery and music. Refreshments will be served.

If you like krumkaka, you may want to check out this Saturday, Dec. 1 event in Eden Prairie.

St. Andrew Lutheran Church (in Eden Prairie) hosts a "Taste of Scandinavia," from 1 to 3 p.m.

Treats include lefsa, herring, cardomon bread with sliced cheese, crackers with cream cheese and Lingonberries, krumkaka, cut-out cookies, ginger cookies, rice pudding, spritz cookies, Swedish Christmas bread, fruit soup, Scandinavian almond bread, kringla, sandbakkelses, fruit cakes, etc.

Tickets are $5 each. Stop by St. Andrew Lutheran Church to purchase a ticket or call the church at (952) 937-2776 to make a reservation and pay at the door.

As far as Scandinavian foods go I don't mind lefse (with butter and sugar of course), I'll never try lutefisk but I love my grandma's krumkake. The name always made me snicker when I was younger but when I see those thin cookie rolls, my mouth waters. Swedish meatballs aren't half bad either.
