The Ostby’s are half-way

The Ostby’s are half-way along on their journey, according to a Minnesota Sesquicentennial update. They are expecting to reach New York Mills this afternoon. They will continue to travel 10 miles a day until they reach the State Fair.

Still takes a bit of getting

Still takes a bit of getting used to when coming off of Highway 41. I never had to look over my shoulder when merging before and now I have to remind myself every day.

It's opened up Chaska for quick travel to the rest of the metro area. Hopefully I will no longer hear from family and friends that "it's too far from the Twin Cities."

First thing I noticed is that my 6AM commute into the cities is accompanied by quite a bit more traffic, especially trucks.

With the 147 interchange not opening until "mid August" the commute to and from Carver really isn't affected by the recent completion. We still have to get off at 41 and go through downtown. Although I anticipate the big backup at the 41 off ramp should go away.

I will miss the daily antics of the left lane vigilantes blocking those renegade people who dare use the left lane when merging. I have no problem with people using the left lane up till the merge point, I preferred to kick back in the right lane and enjoy watching the irritated drivers swerving at one another.

The new 212 is wonderful ...

I had to rub my eyes to make sure my vision wasn't playing tricks on me this morning. It was almost too good to be true- the orange barrels were finally removed and the roadway to Carver was open. Woo hoo!

First off, congratulations on being the first Web poster to use the term "Chaska Boulevard. That new name is definitely going to take some getting used to.

The Chaska Herald staff is currently debating what we're going to call the stretch of road in upcoming news stories (old Highway 212/Chaska Boulevard/County Road 61, etc.).

Hopefully, the opening will reduce some of the heavy truck traffic on the old highway.

I would imagine that many of the gravel trucks leaving the Carver pits will travel up 147 to access the new Highway, instead of zig-zagging on Chaska Boulevard and old Highway 212/Chaska Boulevard/County Road 61, etc. (See, we definitely need to pick a name.)

It will also be interesting to see what impact the opening of the Engler Boulevard intersection will have on redirecting the Clover Ridge rush hour traffic from the heavily-used Hundertmark intersection at Highway 41.

I guess I'll find out next week.

We live along the old 212 (chaska Blvd). We are hoping the with the new 212 opening it will lessen the traffic flow on Chaska Blvd.

County Road 10 reopened

County Road 10 reopened today. The road has been closed since mid-June to add a final layer of blacktop and to stripe the road.

I still appreciate my smooth and easy daily commute from Carver to Eden Prairie on the new 212.

I'm a little disappointed the CR147 interchange won't open until mid-August.
