And let's not forget Kristy Lee Cook's disasterous "Eight Days A Week" - easily the worst performance of the season and the one that seemed to drive her fans to call on her behalf and keep her in the competition well past her expiration date (but hey, we got to hear about her stupid horses a few more times)

When my daughter was growing

When my daughter was growing up, "Shut up" was a bad word -- she could ask people to please be quiet but I didn't like to hear her tell people to shut up.

Well, last night, I was shuttin' people up left and right so I could watch the delayed show on DVR -- I stopped answering my phone and refused to look at text messages for fear someone would let the cat out of the bag. Then my husband and a friend came to our house after the Twins game and before I'd made it to the final outcome on Idol.

I ordered them to shut up if they knew -- but they didn't, so we all watched the final half hour together.

I was cheering from my front-and-center spot on the couch. Well done, David Cook, well done -- and the same goes for you America!

Here's what I don't understand - why, on a show in which they're trying to find the next pop star, do they fall backwards into a bunch of 80's performers? Also, at the same time they push contestants to pick contemporary songs, they make theme nights based on anything but contemporary music. I think that Idol is trying to feed too many different audiences at once which is why the show can appear to be schizoid on occasion. That along with Paula saying people are standing in their truth that is.

Very pleased with the knockout results. I had my fingers crossed when Simon was apologizing to David Cook about the criticism last night. If you've ever had doubts that the judges didn't know the results, now you know.

I am stunned! So very happy for DC, but absolutely stunned. I don't always vote in the finales, but when I have in the past, I've never voted for the winner! I feel like *I'm* the American Idol! Woo! And America finally got it right! Double woo!

How adorable was David Cook when they announced his name? I was pleased as punch with Simon's apology and was ready to leave it at that, but for DC to get the win is awesome! Yay Hobbit Rocker!

As for the rest of the night...I can't believe I sat through it all. I was just confused by the whole evening. And they need to stop doing crazy CGI performances just because they can. Although Gladys and the "Pips" were more entertaining than Celine and Elvis.

And ZZ Top? And George Michael? And Bryan flippin' Adams?? The '80s called, and they want their music back!

The most satisfying American Idol results to date as David Cook is named Season Seven's winner!

As soon as Simon backtracked on his comments from last night, I began to have a glimmer of hope that this was not going to be Archuleta's night and indeed it was not. A 12 million vote margin is huge. Way to go Ruth Anne and Mr. Ruth Anne and ChicChick! You saved the season with your tenacious voting!

I'm hoping that because you all were burning up the D.C. lines last night, I (and I'm sure many others) couldn't get through. If Cook is crowned, he'll owe his thanks to a legion of devoted adult fans forced to get out their phones and exercise democracy.

As much as I want Cook to win, I can imagine him taking a loss a lot more graciously than Archuleta (who barely made it through last night). That's maturity for you.

I'm almost ashamed to admit that I voted a few dozen times using the dueling cell phone strategy. While my husband grilled dinner outside, I sat on the couch repeatedly dialing the 01 number on my phone and the 03 one on his. My neighbor was dialing into the 05 number till we figured out she had an AT&T phone and could text votes for free!

When she left to go home, my husband and I continued dialing till our cell batteries died. Then I went upstairs and plugged mine into the charger and -- fatal mistake -- layed down on the bed to keep voting. I got a few more in before I fell asleep.

All I can say is if David Cook doesn't win, it's not our fault.

Hmmm...I wonder who the Idol

Hmmm...I wonder who the Idol Machine wants to win? It was kind of ambiguous last night. Way to push the envelope, AI!

I'm hearing all this talk about "Archie" coming into his own as an artist last night, and I think it's all bunk. Does he have a great singing voice? According to many people, yes. But what experience does he have as an "artist"? Being groomed by his dad to fulfill his own dashed dreams? Granted, I have no idea what Archie's dad wanted to be when he grew up, but I think it's clear he's trying to relive something through his son. Let the kid go live life a little and come back later.

I thought David Cook did much better than the judges gave him credit for last night. I felt like he was having his own concert, and I'd buy a ticket right now!

PS--My local Fox station just reported that a company who monitors busy signals on phone lines (what??) reported that David Cook's phone lines had more busy signals that Archie's lines. DC fans flooding the lines, perhaps??
