9 bucks for a burger, 4.50 for fries! No way! Too expensive. We actually got up and left when we saw the menu. So did our neighbors! I think there will be another business in there shortly!

MIX = GYP We went there for lunch too but found $2.50 for French Fries and $2.95 for a Coke a little pricey for New York City much less Chaska. Mr. Pullis is trying to get his investment back in a big hurry. Sorry, we won't be back.

My favorite thing is being able to just walk or bike to anything. You have restaurants, movies, the library, trails - the downtown area is really the jewel of this city. It's what makes us still a charming smalltown city and not just another suburban vanilla - need- to- ride- everywhere- mess.

I couldn't agree with you

I couldn't agree with you more. Hardee's, Red Lobster...Kohls?? What's next an ugly eye-sore like Walmart? Why are we trying so desperately to become just another suburb? It can't be anything other than greed. There is no foresight or city planning. It's just money. That seems to be the only consideration, not enhancing or preserving our charm. We certainly aren't going to keep that charm that makes us a #1 city by putting in more cookie cutter businesses, not to mention the poor planning with hwy 212 - 41 and what I see as a looming cloud over us with a new bridge. We're just cutting into our historical area and creating more suburban run of the mill developments.

It's extremely disappointing. I've been here 15 years and had always hoped we'd preserve the downtown area to keep our small town charm - not build 4 lane hwys around the area and possibly a bigger, busier bridge.

The city planners are a huge disappointment.

We went there for lunch today, and LOVED it. I had the Goat Cheese, Roasted Red Pepper, and Herb omlette, and the better half had the pastrami sandwich.

I loved the omlette, with its creamy goat cheese and perfectly roasted peppers. The 7-grain toast needed something (perhaps a touch of butter), but the avocado and tomato garnish made up for it!

The better half liked the pastrami, but thought it would go better with rye bread. The focaccia was too tough for the pastrami, even though the meat was very savory.

We shared the hand-cut fries, which we both thought were great. The paprika aioli was a great accompaniment to the tender, double-cooked fries.

We didn't get dessert, but the cake doughnut bread pudding and apple crisp were very tempting, and we're looking forward to the next visit.

The service was fantastic, and we were in and out in less than an hour. We're looking forward to our next visit!

Looks promising. I like the mermaid logo. Hopefully, this restaurant can make a go of it in Waconia. With a great lakeside location and quick highway access (once 212 opens all the way) it should be a nice draw for Twin Cities daytrippers.

I was really sorry to see Nancy's Landing go.

So, I was excited to hear that Dermot Cowley (a Watertown resident) is opening a new restaurant at the site.

The service and food have always been great at Cowley's Irish-themed restaurant Jake O'Connor's in Excelsior, so I have high expectations for his new Waconia business.

More from the U of M on the

More from the U of M on the newly named apple "frostbite." Here's their release:

The wait is over. The University of Minnesota has announced the winning name of its newest apple, Frostbite.

Formerly known as "MN447," Frostbite dates back to 1921 when the cross-pollinating of two apple blossoms was made at the university's Horticultural Research Center (HRC), now in its 100th year. The apple is actually a grandparent of the most famous U of M apple, Honeycrisp, and joins a long line of successes including Haralson, Zestar and Snowsweet apples. The center is also responsible for several new grape varieties, including the LaCrescent and Frontenac, and plants such as the northern-hardy "Lights" azaleas.

The naming of the apple was chosen following a contest at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum that saw more than 7,000 entries worldwide. Ten Minnesotans who independently submitted the winning name are Lisa Rolf of Eden Prairie, Ted and Caroline Larson of Chaska, Ann Stout of Woodbury, Bonnie Winzenburg of Brainerd, Matt Zitzow of Roseville, Dianne Brackett of Wayzata, Kelly Olinger of White Bear Lake, Cindi Cardinal of Coon Rapids and Linda Davis of Coon Rapids. They will each receive a certificate of congratulations and a basket of Frostbites.

"We're excited to finally have a name," said Jim Luby, a professor in the university's department of horticultural science. "The public interest in this naming was tremendous."

Luby and David Bedford, an apple scientist at HRC, coordinated the judging process. The committee selected two runners-up: "Munchkin" and "Small Wonder."

"It was an exhausting process, but we're very happy with the results," said Bedford.

Frostbite is a specialty apple with striking characteristics -- it is small in size; it has an unusual, almost tropical, flavor; and it is the most winter hardy apple ever released by the university. It is suited for home gardeners and orchards that market directly to consumers.

While the Frostbite name is here, consumers will have to wait to eat the apples. Commercial nurseries will soon start propagating the trees, which will be ready for gardeners and orchards to plant in one to two years. The first trees will then bear fruit to sell around 2014.

Judging by descriptions of its harsh taste, "Freezer Burn" might be a more appropriate name. Although, I look forward to trying some of it in cider.

I'm on edge about this. I can see how it would be a great addition to Chaska and give jobs to people but I'm more concerned about traffic. The stretch from Hundermark/41 and down past Engler Blvd / 41 is a traffic nightmare. You add another 7000 cars to the area and Chaska will be so congested wiht traffic. We already got 5 schools within a few miles from each other and Chan highschool is coming up real fast. You add those and this new proposed school and the new 312....you got a real headache. I miss quite old Chaska.

This will be a great addition to Chaska! I reside in the adjacent Clover Ridge neighborhood. It will attract learners of all ages, not just party adolescents, to continue their education for personal and professional growth. Additionally it will add jobs, income, taxes and shoppers to the Chaska area. This is a real win-win arrangement for everyone in Chaska.
Here comes Chico State

Here comes Chico State University, otherwise known as the party college of the U.S. Watch out.

Well, I wouldn't go that far. Chico State is in California and I doubt EdCampus is going to produce the next Animal House or even anything close to St. Cloud State or even St. Thomas.

So Chaska residents shouldn't worry too much about, what I think looks like a good thing for the city.

This is a bad idea. I've lived in college towns and the atmosphere it creates. One of the best joys of living in Chaska is no college, now it's going to change, and not for the better. Outside of town or further away the better.
