It should be pointed out

It should be pointed out that the sources of the stories in your post come from conservative websites whose role is to spin the news and publish it with a bias toward the right.

It should be noted that many conservatives in the news today are ideologues committed only to opposing those who may not have the same opinions as their own. These people are interested only in creating a closed society which is free of others’ values. These are not the principles or values on which this country was founded.

Determining whether or not Franken is unstable should be left to someone with a background in psychology.

Is it just me...
...or does

Is it just me...

...or does $1.3 million seem low? If Franken has all the Hollywood support he claims, shouldn't he have a bit more in the coffers? With 10,000 donors, that averages out to $130 per donor, not taking into account the large donors. I wonder what the median donation and high versus low donations were.

Also, I am curious as to the amount of money raised from Minnesotans. The Senate race is statewide, not nationwide, and I think the amount of money raised within Minnesota would be a better predictor of Franken's chances.

-Katie

P.S. It's often just me... ;)

Al Franken for Senate released its preliminary fundraising totals for the first quarter, which ended March 31.

According to an Al Franken for Senate press release, the campaign expects to report over $1.3 million raised from over 10,000 contributors from all 50 states and Washington, D.C.

“We’re thrilled,” said Communications Director Andy Barr, in the release.

First quarter fundraising reports are due to the Federal Election Commission on April 15.

Here's a bit of media

Here's a bit of media criticism that "Shadow" posted yesterday on our sister Web site, www.shakopeenews.com:

I noticed this morning that the story of Al Franken announcing his running for the senate in today's Strib was relegated to the region section, lower half.

Could it be that they are trying to show that they're not really liberal, and Franken running for office is no big deal.

Sorry Star Tribune, but like it or not, Al Franken is a national story, and deserved front page placement.

He is going to be a lightning rod, and will continue to be a major story, not unlike when Jessie ran.

Naming the new editor and a story on the new Grand Canyon skywalk is interesting, but either could have been inside the paper.

The beauty of a Franken

The beauty of a Franken candidacy is that he will implode, just like Mike Hatch did. Something will happen, and Franken won't know how to deal with it, so he'll just say (or do) something stupid.

Seriously, though, Franken is one unstable dude, even more so than Jesse Ventura.

Here are some examples:

http://www.newsmax.com/archives/ic/2005/6/13/93713.shtml
http://www.humanevents.com/article.php?id=6666
http://www.newsmax.com/archives/ic/2004/1/27/94253.shtml

This is really the best the DFL can do? There's got to be a better candidate out there. There simply HAS to be.

-Katie

When Franken reads this

When Franken reads this release, he only needs to resort to his Stuart Smalley alter ego, repeating into a mirror: “I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and doggone it, people like me”

Here's what the Minnesota

Here's what the Minnesota GOP said about Franken's announcement. I got this in an emailed press release earlier today:

Franken to Angry Partisans & Liberal Hollywood Elites: Be My Valentine!

St. Paul- Republican Party of Minnesota Chairman Ron Carey today issued the following statement regarding Al Franken’s candidacy for the U.S. Senate.

“Given his blind partisanship and extreme anger, Al Franken is the last person Minnesotans need in the United States Senate. While Senator Norm Coleman continues to work with all sides for the betterment of our state and nation, Franken offers Minnesotans nothing but polarization and vitriolic personal attacks.”
