Interestingly enough, France's smoking ban went into effect today. It is estimated that between a quarter and a third of the French smoke resulting in more than 60,000 deaths a year.

The French ban is a graduated ban with basically everything except bars and restaurants being affected as of Feb. 1. The second part of the ban (bars and restaurants) goes into effect in early 2008.

I couldn't believe it when Ireland instituted a smoking ban and now France? What is this world coming to when two countries whose image is so closely connected to the cigarette begin to crack down? Mon dieu!
