I most definitely do not think Carver Co should build their own fiber ring. ALL the benefits they speak to in this article by the Commissioners are already being provided by other companies in the area i.e. EMBARQ, Comcast. This would be nothing but a waste of taxpayer dollars. Does the County understand the magnitude of what they are talking about? To me they look like ignorant and uniformed people. I would like you to post the County's Business Plan for this project in your paper because there are probably a hundred questions right now that I and fellow taxpayer have that need to be addressed. Most should be answered by a Business Plan. When I read through the posted RFB for this project quickly the maintenance estimates are grossly low by first glance. They don't have a clue what it cost to build & run a utility company? look how bad their brother Chaska failed at Chaska.net. That's less then a tenth of what we are talking here. Let big business do what they do best - provide service, Let the County do what they are suppose to do; meet the basic service requirements and special needs of residents in a fiscally responsible and caring way. (per their mission)
