Missed it by "that much"....

Missed it by "that much".... Once again, a nice rain has passed us by. On Saturday afternoon, Chaska officially received just a trace of precipitation, while places as close to us as Glencoe tallied just over one inch of welcome rainfall. There is a slight chance of rain in our forecast over the next several days, along with temperatures in the middle 80's. So far things are looking pretty nice for River City Days!

The rain looked impressive

The rain looked impressive on radar as it rolled into the Twin Cities on Thursday. However, most of the heaviest rain slid off just to our south. Officially we received 0.18" in Chaska, but much higher amounts fell fairly close to our area - I saw a report of 4.40" of rain near Waseca from Thursday morning!

Since River City Days are only a week away, it should be no surprise that higher temperatures are in the forecast once again for later next week. Enjoy the heat, for these are the days we long for in January!

A litle marble-sized hail

A litle marble-sized hail fell in Chaska last week, along with some much-needed rain (0.54" on the 10th and 0.60" on the 11th) and some wind (a peak gust of 38 mph). More rain and thunder are possible later this week....

Didn't know the rain was

Didn't know the rain was coming last night and was sitting in a restaurant in Mendota when my husband said, "Wow, look outside."

My response: "Good thing I closed the sunroof before we came in."

If only my husband (who had been driving) had closed the windows!

At least we weren't on a motorcycle like the guy sitting next to us. And good thing we still had towels in the car from taking the dogs to the river.

A nice rain on Monday night!

A nice rain on Monday night! We received 0.68" of rainfall overnight on Monday/Tuesday....a very welcome rainfall after a dry last half of June.

Be ready for more heat and humidity later in the week, along with a chance of thunder once again.

Hot and steamy on Sunday!

Hot and steamy on Sunday! Did you spend any time outside on Sunday (July 6th)? If you did, you probablly noticed that it was warm and humid! Our high temperature hit 90 degrees in Chaska, along with a dew point temperature of 73 degrees! (the "dew point" is a measure of the amount of moisture in the air, when that number hits 60 you will begin to feel the increased humidity...when it passes 70 it feels "tropical" or oppressive. We had that on Sunday!). We have a good chance of receiving some rain later on Monday, which is good news for our lawns and gardens. But don't worry, you lovers of summer, for the heat will return by later in the week!

Almost half-an-inch of rain

Almost half-an-inch of rain fell last weekend! On Friday and Saturday (June 27-28), Chaska received a welcome 0.48" of rain - along with a little wind. However, many lawns and gardens are still looking a little bit parched. With warmer temperatures in the forecast, let's hope for a few showers from time to time as well.

I see hints of the upper 80's (maybe even a shot at 90 degrees) in a little over a week or so, along with increasing levels of humidity. It looks like summer just might arrive on schedule after all!

I'm thinking a mid-60s Mustang or a late-50s/early-60s Corvette would be ideal.

This weather we've been having the past few days has been perfect. However, with only a few days left of spring, I don't know if the season can redeem itself.

My yard was fine -- but I wish I'd closed my sunroof on my car! The wind blew a whole bunch of these little tree debris things (not helicopters) into my car.

44 mph wind gust in Chaska!

44 mph wind gust in Chaska! A small storm "blew" by Chaska on Saturday night around 9:30 pm. We just missed a good rain, as most of the storm slid by just to our north. We did officially receive a "trace" of precipitation, along with some strong winds for a short period of time (the peak wind in Chaska was measured at 44 miles per hour). Some reports of tree damage were received from around the metro area. How did your yard fare?

I didn't hear the rain as I

I didn't hear the rain as I went to bed on Wednesday -- I watched it and the lightning through the windshield all across Wisconsin and into Minnesota as my husband and I drove home from Indiana.

OK, so I dozed a bit while he drove. All I can say is, thank goodness I splurged on those new tires before we left -- and thank goodness he was behind the wheel while I was securely belted into the passenger seat with a pillow against the window.

the Backyard Rain Gauge

Now that spring is finally here, it is time to break out "the Rain Gauge" once again. Throughout the summer of 2008, you will find the official National Weather Service rainfall totals for the city of Chaska posted within this forum. And, of course, you can always pull up a chair in the backyard and visit with friends about the weather, recent storm damage, any weather related phenomenon that you have seen, and/or just about anything else that you would like to talk about!
