So true. I feel bad for most of the contestants this week. Syesha has to be the only one chomping at the bit for this theme week. At least we can hear what these songs would have sounded like had Mariah Carey not put her vocal gymnastics mark all over them. I'm kind of looking forward to more subdued versions of her songs. There's some potential for greatness there. We'll see.

Mariah Carey to mentor the Idol hopefuls this week. Didn't we just suffer through inspirational music last week? Are the Idols really going to have to sing from the Carey catalog??? If so, yikes!

Talk about coming out of left field!

I never would have had Michael Johns in the bottom three this week, not with Carly, Syesha and Brooke to choose from -- not to mention that I was not as enamored with Jason Castro's Tiny Tim-like performance of "Over the Rainbow" as the judges were. But I do enjoy his style in general so I cut him some slack.

My neighbor was watching with me and I thought she was going to cry -- she kept saying, "This is NOT what I wanted to happen!"

Of course, neither of us has cast a vote this season so we've got no one to blame but ourselves.

I didn't see Michael's performance, but I did see Carly's and she was horrible (as she has been almost every week). I totally expected her to be sent packing after that train wreck. It sounded more like yelling than singing.

I found last night's AI very

I found last night's AI very UNinspiring. Boring songs and lackluster performances. I missed Michael Johns performance, but it sounds like I didn't miss much. I'm actually pulling for him. I think he's got some star potential, but he just needs to figure out what style suits him best.

During the auditions process, I picked David Cook and told my daughter - "he's going to win it this year" - for a while it looked like I may have been right. Last night, though, he mumbled through the lyrics and just sounded unprepared. I hope he's back on track next week.

American Idol: Inspire this

I didn't turn off the show tonight feeling inspired to go out and change the world, but I have to say that this year's Idol Gives Back tunes were vastly better choices than last year's schlock.

Rather than drill us with the likes of 'Hero,' 'Wind Beneath My Wings' and 'Because You Loved Me,' the contestants looked for songs that had inspirational lyrics in their respective genres without falling victim to the requisite lite channel sounds. And for that I thank them.

Still, I'm looking forward to a more lively week next week. What about you?
