I have to go with Grape Nuts all the way!
If I get really ambitious I will top it off with a little bit of brown sugar...Yum!

You guys were lucky kids.

You guys were lucky kids. All I ever got were Rice Krispies, Cheerios and the occasional Frosted Flakes (oooh Frosted cereal). I remember begging for Cookie Crisps as a kid, those commercials just made them look so good. Have you noticed the common theme of making the cereal seem unattainable in commercials. "Silly Rabbit, Trix are for kids", the Cookie Crisp Theif, "They're always after me Lucky Charms", Barney Rubble stealing Fred's Cereal, etc. Kids usually want what they think they can't have, I guess that's the reason for the commercials.

Name the sugary, gimmicky

Name the sugary, gimmicky cereal, I've probably tried it. I even tried some awful Bart Simpson-themed cereal. The lesson there was that chocolate for breakfast doesn't taste as good as it sounds.

Ice Cream cone

Ice Cream cone cereal-available mid to late 80's, it didn't stay available for long. This cereal contained little vanilla balls with tiny chocolate dots (to resemble chocolate chip vanilla ice cream) mixed in with mini sugar cone pieces (to resemble, sugar cones..). So good!

I have a vivid childhood

I have a vivid childhood memory of Kaboom cereal prizes. In one particular case, the prize was a simple hand puppet made of thin plastic baggie-like material. The anticipation of the prize was always fun, but in this case, due to some horrible packaging machine problem at the cereal plant our Kaboom box contained 5 or 6 of these puppets. It was like we won the lottery.

Let me know if you want to

Let me know if you want to hear an interesting (but slightly gross) little story about Frankenberry and Count Chocula cereal that I learned in college...

It should be noted that

It should be noted that Kaboom cereal also played a memorable role in Kill Bill 1.

Oh boy. I recall those

Oh boy. I recall those smiling day-glo faces staring up at me as a child from big bowls of "Kaboom" cereal. Which, come to think if out, would explain a lot of what happened following the 1970s.

Moreso, I recall the prizes at the bottom of the cereal boxes, notably the Cap'n Crunch's soap shaver.

I also recall many variations of the balloon-powered toy (as noted on the package of "Sir Grapefellow.")

Most of the toys were operated by either balloon, baking soda, or rubber band.

And given our current energy/economic crisis, I expect that balloon, baking soda and rubber band technology will be making a comeback soon.

Blueberry Waffelos: The best

Blueberry Waffelos: The best cereal ever formulated.

Who can forget the commercial: Waffelo Bill singing "Git along, little blueberry critters, get aloooong!" while rounding them up on his ranch.

Waffelo Bill knows best

Cereal nostalgia: 20 crazy cereal creations

This morning I ate a bowl of Grape Nuts. Now before you go on and on about how mature I am and how great it is to get your day started with a bowl of fiber, I'll confess that yesterday I had a bowl of Peanut Butter Captain Crunch (I realize I am among a small minority of people who enjoy this roof-of-your-mouth-grenade goodie).
