In the spirit of Beatles

In the spirit of Beatles week, we watched "Across the Universe" last night. The movie loosely ties together the love story of Jude and Lucy using nothing but -you guessed it- Beatles music.

I would have loved to have someone videotaping our faces while we watched this because I know there was a point about an hour or so into the movie where everything deteriorated into something that I can only imagine was designed to be watched while on drugs (it involved a circus-like atmosphere with gigantic wooden hands).

Still, the music was good and provided some pretty decent interpretations of the Beatles' catalog. Wonder if the AI kids were allowed to watch?

I again had to watch AI on

I again had to watch AI on delay so I was looking at the Tuesday performances as the Wednesday elimination show was being recorded on my DVR.

I knew going in (thanks to my sister, who knew I didn't watch yet but felt the need to dish) that Chikezie did "awesome," David A. was awful and Kristy Lee "better go home."

I didn't have advance knowledge of David H. but, I have to admit, his performance was not pretty (though I am a fan).

I didn't think Kristy Lee was as horrible as I'd prepared for -- and I also think it would have sounded better if the band had slowed down a bit.

As for the bottom three, I think Ramielle should have been there instead of Syesha -- but, then again, I didn't vote this week ;-)

Overall, I think the contestants this season are better than last year -- so why can't the show choose a genre to showcase some of this talent?

Shocker! Kristy Lee Cook

Shocker! Kristy Lee Cook lives to deliver another crappy song next week.

Unfortunately, that meant that David Hernandez got the boot which is a real shame. David H. may have been the source of controversy, but he had a good voice and some solid performances. I think he would have delivered a few more, too, if he would have stuck around.

Can it be true? Beatles

Can it be true? Beatles songs will dominate not one but two theme nights?

HUH?

I don't know about you, but I'm ready to move on. To quote Amanda Overmyer's song choice, you can't do that.

I hadn't put together the David Cook/Dominic Monaghan (as Charlie on Lost) connection together until your post. He does bear a striking resemblance to "Charlie." All he needs is some tape on his fingers and a nasty coke habit.

P.S. I read another blog today talking about Brooke playing the piano shoeless that went on to say that if David C. did that, they fully expected to see a pair of hairy hobbit feet.

Beatles songs on Idol? From

Beatles songs on Idol? From what I heard, it was not good for the contestants or the songs. Too bad they were put on the market a few years ago to the highest bidder (Michael Jackson). I'm surprised Donald Trump hasn't puchased "Baby you're a rich man" for his own personal anthem, or that Elliot Spitzer isn't using "Can't buy me love" as background music for his public apology.

This was my first full

This was my first full viewing of AI this season, and I was not disappointed. It started a little weak, got much stronger in the middle, and then erupted into chaos at the end. Brilliant!

My favorite performance of the night was Carly Smithson. Yay for her! With all this talk that the guys have the upper hand this year (and I do agree with that), she is a real stand-out for the women.

Big surprise of the evening: Chikezie! He looked like he was having so much fun, it was infectious!

Little surprise of the evening: David Cook. As Mollee posted earlier, I didn't want to like this guy at first either. And here's why: he looks like a hobbit. And I am not anti-hobbit. I just don't think hobbits rock. But after last week and this week, I have to remind myself that if I can buy Dominic Monaghan (a living, breathing hobbit if ever there was one) as a rocker on Lost, I can give David C. a chance. Rock on, hobbit!

I enjoyed Brooke enjoying her experience. Melinda Doolittle redux.

I've fallen in love with Michael Johns, and it had nothing to do with his performance. His accent is lovely, and I'm positive he had a "Vegemite" shirt on in one of his childhood photos. If asked, I wouldn't be opposed to having his babies.

My thoughts on the

My thoughts on the evening:

Chikezie really surprised me tonight. When the song started with the banjo, I was all set to hate it - but was plesantly surprised.

I'm starting to really enjoy David Cook - he's got a good rocker voice that I think would sell some albums.

Brook White is doing really well with her slow paced, feeling filled songs. I don't know that it'll get her to the end, but it'll get her an album.

Kristy Lee Cook is definitely my pick to go home this week. It's almost as though she was singing the song sped up with the wrong instrument arrangement in the background. It was a train wreck!

American Idol: Beatlemania!

Beatles night is now in the books and it was interesting to say the least. Some contestants had a hard days night while others really came together with their songs.

No one went too far out on a limb with their song choice and tackled "I Am the Walrus" or "Yellow Submarine" (where is Danny Noriega when you need him?) but I'm sure at least Sir Paul and Ringo can rest assured that they retain the definitive versions of most of their songs.
