I was happy to see the Colloseum in there, as well as Christ the Redeemer and Petra. How the Pyramids didn't get back in is beyond me - one of the greatest engineering marvels of all time.

The seven NEW wonders of the world will be announced live from Lisbon, Portugal on 7-7-07.

According to their Web site: the event will take place at Portugal's largest venue, the Estadio da Luz in Lisbon. The international event will start at 9:30 p.m. local time, ending at 11 p.m. The international show, which will include award-presentation appearances by Hilary Swank, Ben Kingsley, Bipasha Basu, Cristiano Ronaldo, Neil Armstrong and Bertrand Piccard, and also will feature performances by Chaka Khan, Jennifer Lopez, Jose Carreras, Alessandro Safina, Joaquín Cortés, and Dulce Pontes, among others.

I’m boycotting changes to the list until I complete visits to the original wonders! I’m a list person, and this is going to throw me off. I’ll have to revert to my list of 100 places I’m supposed to visit before I die; I’ve only finished a dozen of those!

Did you know that Egypt is quite miffed at even having to compete for its wonder status? I got a kick out of that. I think they are a worthy contender but if the voting public thinks otherwise, I guess they'll just have to deal with it. They'll always have ancient wonder status.

I have long been a supporter of this effort to name some new wonders! I even donated money to the New 7 Wonders group several years ago.
One of my votes would go to the Statue of Liberty, because it is reminiscent of one of the original wonders, the Colossus of Rhodes. I would also vote for the Great Wall.
I would not vote for the Pyramids, they were on the list the first time.

What would you choose if you could pick the seven wonders of the modern world? Would you lean towards the majestic Taj Mahal or the mysterious Stonehenge? Would you choose a desert city built into a rock wall like Petra or a fairytale castle like Neuschwanstein?
