I'll admit it. I checked my bank account more than a few times yesterday, hoping I would be among the first to get my economic stimulus check. You see, I have one of those social security numbers that falls in the much-desired "first batch" category. I've never given much thought to my social security number before, but this week, I'm sending a big wink-wink to Uncle Sam (or whoever is in charge of handing those puppies out).
Well my money didn't get deposited yesterday, but when I gave a quick check this morning, I was pleasantly surprised to find a fresh $600 in my account. That's $600 that isn't earmarked for rent or school loans or a car payment. Free money.
Admittedly, it didn't take long for me to spend that $600. In what was probably the quickest turnaround of funds, I lobbed that money at a pair of plane tickets to Mexico for my upcoming honeymoon. I'm still waiting for Frontier Airlines, who sought bankruptcy protection earlier this month, to send me a big thank you for my business. I figure President Bush would want me to help a struggling airline and since I'm still not convinced that the Northwest-Delta merger is going to be good for Twin Cities travelers, I'm happy to send my money to a competing airline.
