Should marriage be gender-neutral in Minnesota?

Minnesotan Doug Benson recently proposed the Marriage and Family Protection Act to make marriage a gender-neutral proposition in Minnesota. It was introduced to the Minnesota legislature with 14 House sponsors and 5 Senate supporters. You can read more about it here.

American Idol: Does past success matter?

Last year it was a controversy over allowing former background
singers to compete, this year AI is shrouded in debate over past
successes. Turns out, some of these kids haven't been harboring their
talents in the barn all these years. Kristy Lee Cook, Michael Johns and
Carly Smithson have all had recording contracts (all were subsequently
dropped from their labels). Robbie Carrico toured with and dated
Britney Spears when he was in the boy band Boyz-N-Girlz United. David
Archuleta won Star Search.

TELL US: Do past successes
matter to you? Should they be allowed to compete? Would it be better if
such things were disclosed during their backstories? What do you think?

If AI is supposed to find unknown talent and I don't know of these people yet, then they are still unknowns to me. I hardly think Carly selling 300+ albums (which were probably mostly bought by family and friends) makes her ineligible for AI. Since when are we only allowing people one chance to make it in this world?

I wonder if Taylor Hicks and Katherine McPhee (and the other Idols who were dropped by AI's label) can reapply for Idol since the only prerequisite now seems to be that you're not currently under contract. (Oh and under 28 which would render Hicks ineligible - but McPhee could still make the cut).
