The educational practice of keeping students and teachers together for more than one year is called “looping.” District 112 elementary schools using the practice typically do so for two years.
Where “multi-age experiences” are designed to foster relationships between students of different ages, looping primarily focuses on student/teacher relationships.
District 112 began looping formally in 1996 with the opening of Bluff Creek Elementary.
District 112 schools that loop include:
Bluff Creek: Loops grades 1-4
Chanhassen: No formal looping
Chaska: No formal looping
Clover Ridge: Loops grades 1-4
East Union: Loops grades 2-5
Jonathan: No formal looping
Victoria: Loops grades 1-2, 4-5
You can read more about looping in the print edition of the Chaska Herald.
How do you feel about looping? Do you have children who have been in a looping program? How did they respond?

Back to page topOur daughter had the opportunity to have Mrs. Foster at Chaska Elementary School when she went from teaching third to fourth grade in consecutive years. We found this to be a great experience because our daughter knew what to expect from her teacher and Mrs. Foster knew her students' strengths and weakness from the first day of class. We were fortunate due to staffing changes to have had this experience and we are thankful for it.
