We've all heard about The Goof - Carver County assessed a Waconia property at $18,900, but entered the value of $189,000,000 in their system. So, what should be done about it?
Raise property taxes? Have the county and schools cut their budgets? Should Carver County Adminstration fire the guilty parties involved? How do we prevent this from happening again? Do we have faith in our county personnel?
What are your thoughts?

Our property values are...
Back to page topOur property values are being raised too much each year. Governor Tim Pawlenty has warned us on his Friday radio shows on WCCO about Counties and Cities doing this to generate new tax revenue. My home value was riased 8.9% in one year. That is just plain BS. The assessor says they base the newest valuation on home sales from Oct 2005 to Sept 2006. Well I know of two homes on my street of similar size that neither sold for the value they have set my home value at and those homes both were sold in late 2005 & mid 2006. As far as the "goof" I have 2 comments: #1 thank God this person read his notice and called the County on it and did not shove the notice in a desk drawer unread. #2 the County made $930,000.00 in budget cuts & the City of Waconia made $430,000.00 in cuts against the $2,550,000.00 the goof was supposed to raise. So where is the other $1,140,000.00 in cuts going to come from? Answer that Mayor Schiffman and Waconia City Council. Your City taxes are going up 30.1% on my property per the "revised" tax statement letters sent to me. The rumor on the streets is that the new ice arena already has $1,000,000.00 in construction change orders.
And if you live in...

You can thank the Jonathan Association Board of Directors for lowering the actual cash value of your property by engaging in frivolous litigation! As the county claims your property is worth more, the real estate market (especially in Jonathan) says otherwise.
Jonathan residents with homes on the market: Don't forget that the Jonathan Association's attorney said that you MUST DISCLOSE THAT YOUR PROPERTY IS THE SUBJECT OF PENDING LITIGATION TO ALL POTENTIAL BUYERS. If you don't disclose this fact, and the Jonathan Association decides to assess owners for the costs associated with the lawsuit (which is the most likely scenario at this point), you can be liable for significant monetary damages...
Just something to think about when the Jonathan Association Board elections come up in February.
And, yes, I will be running for a seat on the Board.
