What do you think of the Minnesota State High School League's decision to force athletic transfers to sit out a season after transferring schools without moving into the district?

Some background:

From an MSHSL release:

League Transfer Rule Unanimously Amended

The Minnesota State High School League Representative Assembly today (Fri., March 16) unanimously approved an amendment to Bylaw 111 – Transfer and Residence.

The amendment changes the immediate eligibility for varsity athletic competition for student-athletes who transfer schools without a corresponding change of residence.

The language in the newly approved bylaw becomes effective at the beginning of the 2007-08 school year, and that language is available here on the League Web site here.

Students who wish to transfer and who complete registration materials at a different school prior to March 30, 2007, will still be governed by the 2006-07 bylaw when they transfer on the first day of school in the fall of 2007.

Prior to the vote, members of the general public and school representatives in attendance were offered an opportunity to discuss the amendment.

Representative Assembly delegates were also offered an opportunity to discuss the amendment. No comments were offered, and after the proposed amendment was moved, the unanimous vote was taken.
