Who are the best non-presidents?

Forget that he is dryer then toast, and had problems with giving a good speech, but Walter Mondale would have made a good president.
He was one of the first VP's to be given duties other then going to funerals, and his knowledge in both domestic and foreign issues is unusual with todays presidential canidates.
He always came across and still does as a thoughtful person, and one who could see the big picture-sometimes a year down the road.
Doubt if he would have ever uttered those immortal words-Bring Em On!
Oh well, we'll never know

I agree with the Ben Franklin comments.

Anyone in the newspaper business would be a great president.

And he did invent bifocals, so nowadays he'd have a lock on the Baby Boomer votes.

I'm forming an exploratory committee.

As a University of Iowa alumnus, I'm confident I'll do well in the Iowa caucuses.

As a side note: Did you know there are three Hawkeyes who work in the Herald office? Anyone who guesses who they are gets bragging rights.

Nestled among those cornfields in the northeastern corner is another great reason to spend some time in Iowa - Luther College.

Mark, are you counting this sometimes-Herald office visitor in your "Hawkeyes" list?? I called the great state - and Mabe's Pizza and the Whippy Dip - home during for four years.

Other Hawkeye guesses are ad-man Jeff Engstrom (Newton)and sports-guy McGovern ... Iowa affiliation unknown. Last guess is new writer Chuck.
