Valentine's Day movies
February 14, 2007 - 10:46am — Mark Olson
Best-bet Valentine's Day movies at the Chaska Rex in downtown Chaska include "Sweet Land" (5:10 p.m. and 7:25 p.m.) and "Music and Lyrics." (5 p.m., 7 p.m.) “Sweet Land” was filmed in Minnesota, by a Minnesota director based on a story by a Minnesota author. It even co-stars Ned Beatty who lives part of the year near his wife’s hometown of Karlstad, Minn., “Moose Capital of the North.” “Sweet Land” is a love story set in rural Minnesota of the 1920s. “Music and Lyrics,” stars Drew Barrymore and Hugh Grant. The title and actors pretty much scream “Valentine’s Day.” However, it’s too early to tell if the movie is any good. Check out the new marquee on the Chaska Rex (formerly Chaska Cinema). It’s a great addition to downtown. At night it really razzle-dazzles. Has anyone seen “Sweet Land” or “Music and Lyrics”? What’s your review?

Joel Siegel likened "Music...
Back to page topJoel Siegel likened "Music and Lyrics" to that last piece of chocolate left in the candy box on Good Morning America this morning. When you finally decide to give it a try, it ends up being chocolate covered brocoli, he said. So, not a great review (even though as a chick-flick connoisseur it looks cute to me).
I recommend heading to the video store to pick up "The Notebook" or "Pride and Prejudice" if you're looking for a classic Valentine's Day movie that she'll love and he might enjoy as well.
Case in point, I actually came home once to find two of my male roommates (who are coincidentally both straight) watching "The Notebook" together. Afterwards, they were entirely obsessed with finding "their Allie." So there you have it - documented proof that "The Notebook" can be watched and enjoyed by males.
